December 2, 2014 Middle School Presentation
On Sunday the first Cassie, Callie, and I put together a presentation for Redlands Middle School. On Sunday the co-founder of Neural Activity wanted to meet with us to go over the presentation. We put together a 30 min presentation that we would present to 25 sixth graders. On Monday the second we left school at 12:15 to go present, for a half an hour. However, when we arrived at Redlands Middle School we found out that they wanted us to present to a 150 of their sixth grade students and for an hour. This was shocking we only had a 30 minute long presentation that we had to change that instance. We decided to give it a shot we would elongate the presentation and ask questions at the end to get the students involved. We split up the presentation by slide, Cassie went over how drugs effect the end product of our brains, Callie went over the time it takes for your brain to heal, and I discussed how the brain effects your mood. At the beginning the kids were a bit talkative so it was hard to grasp their attention. However, once we did the Ping Pong Activity the kids were very intrigued with the presentation. The activity showed the effects of excess dopamine in the brain. I believe the presentation went very smoothly. At the end a couple of the teachers came up to us and asked if we could come back for some of the seventh graders. Although at the beginning it was a little challenging speaking to so many kids, in the end we put together a pretty good presentation.
